Bouganville Exploratory (dates T.B.C) aboard the PNG Explorer. The crew from the PNG Explorer have been to Bouganville only a handful of times and each trip has seen them discover several new waves in the ‘world class’ category. There are still hundreds of reefs, passes and breaks to be discovered. more information.
In 2013 we are inviting you to surf an area of the world where NO OTHER CHARTER has been! Your chance to be part of history, your chance to discover new surf breaks. Your chance to own the story “Yep, I was one of the first crew to surf there.’
Last year we went on a charter aboard the PNG Explorer and I got talking to the captain about an island in the South Pacific that, from every swell, wind and marine chart, looks like it has more surfing potential than anywhere else in the Pacific. The catch…getting there! This island is so isolated that the logistics of running a surf trip there are huge. No one believed that we could make it happen and it took months of organising and persuading before we were able to secure the boat, have it relocated (a massive task and expense) and organise the logistics of getting people there. But we have done it. And you’re invited to join us.
One more thing… I have recently been working with and will continue to collaborate with surf film making legend Jack McCoy to make a documentary on the trip. I am currently working hard on the pre-production phase of the project and can’t wait to point the camera at some newly discovered waves.
Due to the logistics of the trip there are only going to be three 10 night charters with 8 people on each trip.
The adventure begins in the first week of May 2013 with exact dates for each leg to be announced soon.
Lastly we are heading back to PNG sometime between November and January. This time we are going a little further afield to Bougainville. This area has been surfed only a handful of times and there are still plenty of bays, reefs and passes that previous trips have not reached. Like all our trips in 2013, there are NO OTHER charter boats, land camps or surfers in this area. You will be surfing with just the 7 other people on board the boat – sounds good heh?…
So there you have it, 2013 is the year we are seeking out new waves, collaborating with legends and making our own piece of history. If I sound a little over excited, well it is because I am. So let me know if you are keen to join us at any stage of the 2013 journey…
Saltmotion Travel was borne from requests by customers to travel with Joel to “where you took that photograph”, we teamed up with The Perfect Wave Travel to bring a calendar of surf trips to destinations all around the globe. Joel travels with you to photograph and, at the end of the trip, presents you with a disc of images of you on your surf holiday.
Over the past few years we have travelled to some of the world’s best surfing destinations including, Indonesia, The Maldives, The Solomon Islands, PNG, Chile, New Zealand and Fiji. Here is what people have said about travelling with Saltmotion:
How do I describe our trip to the Maldives other than to say it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! – Having Joel on board was the icing on the massive cake. Finishing each day with a photo session and leaving the trip with a bucket load of amazing shots was incredible. – C.D.
The waves are more than a memory with Joel having captured the best waves I have ever surfed – it does not get any better than this in my book – T.C.
I have been surfing now for over 20 years and have had very little photographic evidence of my adventures. I now have something to show my grandchildren someday, to prove that grandpa was cool! Goodonya Joel! –W.B.
I can’t wait to go on another Saltmotion trip. I’m so envious of everyone when they are on them now, as I know exactly how much fun they are! – V.C.
I had such a good time I’m already locked in again for this year. – A.L.
I found a lifetime of smiles that I’ll never forget, not to mention some of the most incredible waves, and more importantly, a bunch of guys who are now some of the closest mates I have. It changed my life and I’d do it again.. I’m gonna’ do it again!! – S.J.D
