Beneath the cliff
February 8th, 2011
Pitching lips and small barrels are what this morning was all about. For those of you that know the Indonesian island of Lombok you’ll recognise the distinctive cliffs that form the backdrop featured in all today’s photographs. By no means was it as good as it can get here, but, taking into account we are here in what’s considered the off season for swell, we are all pretty happy to be scoring some hollow waves. A lot of the waves around the island are accessed from a boat, the luxury of surfing from a boat means I can photograph for a while, swap for a board and get a few waves then get on with the business of taking more photographs – a damn fine way to spend the day!… (If you feel like you deserve a break then the next trip we have going is to the Maldives.) We are in Lombok for the rest of the week, and with a little luck the swell will hang in there (or get bigger!). The only downside (if there is one) to being here during the wet season is there is a lot of rain – the weather changes every few minutes and can be bright and sunny and pouring with rain at the same time!.. It’s making it a little difficult to get out and photograph the island itself whilst trying to keep my camera dry, but I will do my best as the scenery is spectacular here…
Enjoy your day,
Joel Coleman…
