Fishing at dawn…

600mm of clouds...

Thankfully, we have waves this morning – There is a neat little swell from the NE thanks to yesterdays onshore blow. Sets are in the 2-3 foot range and forming some peaky fun ones along the beach. Nothing amazing, but a lot better than yesterday! Charts are showing a drop in size through the day so the earlier the better, if you want to surf.

Last night I had the privilege of attending the Australian premiere of Taylor Steele’s new film “Castles in the Sky.” Producing a sequel to “Sipping Jetstreams” was always going to be a difficult task given the groundbreaking nature of the film. “Castles in The Sky” began with a prologue documenting the adventures and misadventures that plagued the production team throughout the filming. Stories of iced up roads, airlines losing equipment and musical directors hunting for traditional instruments to use in the soundtrack, set the scene for what I was hoping would be more of this engaging documentary style of film. The main feature then took a different angle; moving away from the narrative and focusing on the cinematic. Minimal dialogue, a well constructed soundtrack and beautiful cinematography carried the film through to its highlight, which featured Dave Rastovich surfing a break in India with a giant Buddha visible in the background. Personally I would have liked to hear more of the stories behind the locations. However, as a photographer and surfer, I was happy to just sit back and enjoy the visual journey that Taylor Steele is so capable of producing.
